Weaving Lived Experience into Art

We’re so proud to celebrate Easy Read Toolbox’s very own Megan Munro, who has been named a finalist in the 2025 Craft + Design Canberra Daily Creative Challenge

For Megan, crochet isn’t just a craft; it’s a form of storytelling, reflection, and resistance.

Through 50 years of crocheting, they’ve explored new techniques and materials from yarns and wires to recycled plastics, creating work that weaves together art, environment, and the lived experience of disability.

In Megan’s words:
“Disabled people contribute to the diversity of the human race. Both disabled people and the environment and animal populations could do with more care and nurturing, whether we are ‘ugly’ or ‘broken’, we all have a place.”

Megan’s work reminds us that creativity and inclusion go hand in hand, and that art has the power to challenge ableism and celebrate diversity in all its forms.

The ERT operates on a disability inclusive model in both the work they do and its workplace practices that allow the team, most of who have a disability the flexibility and freedom to do their best work, while never compromising professionalism and expertise.
