When our intake reopens, we typically look for:
Easy Read Writers
Who: People with a knack for clear and simple communication
Living with disability or having experience with disabilities will be looked on favourably.
What: You will be employed to transform complex information into clear, concise, and accessible language using Easy Read principles.
You should be able to do one or more of these:
- Create clear and simple communication.
- Understand the difference between Easy Read, Easy English, and Plain Language.
How much: $$ negotiable based on experience and project.
Photographers
Who: People with photography experience, including students.
Living with disability or having experience with disabilities will be looked on favourably.
What: Employment by contract for agreed theme/s. You will receive an orientation first, so you understand Easy Read requirements.
You should be able to do one or more of these:
- Complete a shoot with people with disabilities (with our coordination support) and provide themed Easy Read-quality photos.
- Complete a shoot of agreed places, animals, items as agreed.
- Alternatively, individual sale of existing images. Images include places, things, people, skills and more.
How much: $$ negotiable based on experience and project.
Graphic Designers
Who: People with graphic design experience, including students.
Living with disability or having experience with disabilities will be looked on favourably.
What: Employment by contract for agreed theme/s. You will receive an orientation first, so you understand Easy Read requirements.
You should be able to:
- Complete a series of images or icons on an agreed theme, for use with people with disabilities.
- Alternatively, individual sale of existing images.
How much: $$ negotiable based on experience and project.
Models with Disability
Who: Disabled people able to participate in photo shoots.
Living with disability or having experience with disabilities will be looked on favourably.
While disabled people will be the stars, there will be times when your friends, family and support workers will be needed (and paid) too!
What: Employment by contract for agreed photo shoot/s.
Photos vary from natural “day in the life” type photos, to posed studio shots demonstrating skills, emotions, activities and more.
How much:
$$ negotiable based on experience and project. We can pay in gift cards, but have been informed these should also be declared as income to the ATO.
Feedback Group
Who: People with cognitive disabilities* able to provide feedback on Easy Read and plain English documents and images.
* Cognitive disabilities include intellectual disabilities, autism, ADHD and any other conditions you feel make it difficult for you to read and understand most documents.
What: Employment by contract for agreed projects. You will receive an orientation first, so you understand Easy Read review requirements.
How much: Varies based on each project. We can pay in gift cards, but have been informed these should also be declared as income to the ATO.
